Zambia — Dignity and Hope

I visited Zambia for the first time recently collaborating with a small NGO Grassroots Heroes in documenting some of their work. Whilst focussed mainly on providing primary education for some low-income villages in the greater Lusaka region, they also run some ad-hoc health clinics when a visiting medic is passing through. As it happened, my daughter, a UK qualified Pharmacist was with me, and so this provided me with greater photographic opportunities.

My over-riding takeaway from these days were of a people full of hope and dignity. Despite financial challenges, access difficulties to education and health, and the usual challenges for low-income communities in being able to influence government decisions which may negatively impact them, there was a light shining in the lives of wonderful people that is often extinguished by the wealth and comfort that the West “offers”.
